Overview

Rusty Key is a quest item, and is almost certainly the key Mara drops during Desert Adventure — the one that opens the hatch in Apache's south-eastern building.

It is the only key in the game's 159-item catalog, and the only item in the entire catalog that is both untradeable and destroyed on drop — exactly the handling a single-use quest key would get, and a strong signal on its own. Its id (215) also sits directly beside Slime Blob (216), the other Desert Adventure item.

The walkthrough documented from gameplay says only "pick up the key" without naming it, so the name here comes from the catalog rather than from play.

How to Obtain

Killing Mara in Apache during Desert Adventure (step 3). She turns hostile when spoken to.

Uses

Opens the hatch inside Apache's south-eastern building, which leads down through a fake wall into the cavern and on to Jesse's Factory.
